The error I am getting after trying to boot from floppy images created with buildinstall: "The module you are trying to load xx is compiled with a gcc version 2 compiler, while the kernel you are running is compiled with a gcc version 3 compiler. This is known to not work." The full story: I am attempting to build Red Hat Advanced Server 2.1 from SRPMS from my build machine, a mostly/fully patched Red Hat 7.2 machine running in a VMWare 3 virtual machine. I have compiled/rebuilt all of the RPMS I want for this using gcc 2.96 (not 3.2, which has been removed). The buildinstall procedure succeeds at producing boot.img, bootnet.img, etc, however when booting either the boot.img or the bootnet.img, hitting ALT+F3, I get multiple copies of the error at the top of this email when it tries to load any module. One more detail: I'm using the rebuilt anaconda*rpms from the AS2.1 SRPM distribution for the buildinstall/genhdlist/etc. So I ask: If I have compiled/rebuilt all of the SRPMS to RPMS using gcc 2.96, why am I getting the version 3 compiler error? At what point in the process is the kernel getting compiled using 3.?? version of gcc and getting included in the floppy images? Or is a particular verions 3.?? compiled library being using in the driver compilation and how do I go about detecting/finding that library? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
