Updating kernel in boot disk

I need to install Red Hat 7.2 on several machines which have Intel e1000
cards, which aren't supported by the standard 7.2 install disks. I'd
hoped for a simple update, so I used the vmlinux from 8.0, and replaced
modules/* from 7.2's PXE initrd.img with modules/* from 8.0's PXE
initrd.img.

The system boots, partitions the disk and formats the filesystems, but
when it tries to download hdlist2 from the server, the disk isn't
mounted and / is full.

What's the simplest way to update the installer for 7.2? I don't have
an existing 7.2 box about, but I do have a 7.3 box.
