Well, you asked.  

I DON'T suggest doing an upgrade at all. 
Backup the files you need and do a full install waxing the disk in the
process.

Especially when migrating for RH7.1 - you are just asking for a flaky
irritating  system if you do this.

In particular I found that the pam configuration files for things like
rsh and telnet (probably most people aren't stupid enough to use these.
But, hey my machines are on a private network)
