Hello. About a week ago I got a new PC in. I spent about 24 hours installing Gentoo on it before I shut down my old PC and hooked the new box up to the old one's peripheral hardware. At that point, I found that sound didn't work. caitlyn ~ # lspci | grep Audio 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 8 Series/C220 Series Chipset High Definition Audio Controller (rev 05) caitlyn ~ # lspci | grep Audio 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 8 Series/C220 Series Chipset High Definition Audio Controller (rev 05) caitlyn ~ # lsmod | grep snd snd_usb_audio 109439 1 snd_usbmidi_lib 17179 1 snd_usb_audio snd_rawmidi 15691 1 snd_usbmidi_lib snd_hda_codec_realtek 49074 0 snd_hda_codec_generic 49803 1 snd_hda_codec_realtek snd_soc_sst_mfld_platform 46291 0 snd_soc_core 124829 1 snd_soc_sst_mfld_platform snd_compress 6491 1 snd_soc_core snd_pcsp 6517 2 I use xfce, and xfce-audio-mixer has USB Audio set (which I think is as it should be), but the only control I have access to is PCM. When I start pianobar as my regular user, I see this error: ALSA lib /var/tmp/portage/media-libs/alsa-lib-1.0.29/work/alsa-lib-1.0.29/src/pcm/pcm_dmix.c:1024:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave /!\ Cannot open audio device. All the Gentoo docs I've looked at say that I should have a Front control and a Master control, but none of them seem to say how to get these controls. Any hints as to what I do next? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Find and fix application performance issues faster with Applications Manager Applications Manager provides deep performance insights into multiple tiers of your business applications.
