Sound cart partially detected?

Hi. I've got an old computer with an intel hda sound card. A few months
ago, I lost the ability to play sound on it. Looking at the output of
alsa-info.sh, it seems that the sound card is at least partially detected
by the kernel and whatnot. But it is not available as a playback device.
In linux mint and ubuntu, only the dummy sound card is available.
According to alsa-info.sh, aplay doesn't list it as a playback device.

I've posted the info from alsa-info.sh, at
http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=494d9462cbba0e5ba34730b00292338517db444b

In addition to that, I also ran alsa-info.sh after booting the computer
onto a live disk of ubuntu 15.10, and got pretty much the same results.

Can anything be done? Is this a hardware problem, or is there hope yet?

Thanks.
