Need help with customusb config

Hello, I'm trying to get alsa working properly with a usb codec.  Its a new codec so I'm sure no alsa drivers are available.  I need help in setting up asound.conf to use the codecs built in volume and mute. But also I am having issue in getting proper default setting to work.
If trying anything like aplay hw:1,0 I get an argument error.
The only way it will play without problems is like this.  aplay -Dfront:soundcard Track04.wav
If I try to from just aplay -Dsoundcard track04.wav it knocks my keyboard offline but plays music!.  Even when in working condition I noticed alsamixer will not control volume.
Having 2 sound devices, I figured I would make front:soundcard my default device. but  the below setting used in asound.conf below still causes my keyboard to go offline.

pcm.!default sysdefault:soundcard

Is there a way to specify front:soundcard as my default pcm device device? By the way if i try to use hw:1,0 it wont work at all.
I would like to have asound settings to control volume and mute also if possible.

Thanks For any help.
