I always use my own kernel (a "normal" one, with rt enabled trough CONFIG_RT_GROUP_SCHED (Group scheduling for SCHED_RR/FIFO, all the other cgroup stuffs are disabled) - that way I can use that kernel for every thing, not just audio), with the ALSA driver from that kernel (not as a separated package), and I never got any issue with snd-aloop, which is up and running all the time. In fact, rt is only needed if you want very low latency with jack. More and more distributions are using cgroups, maybe the cause of your issue is a less audio friendly cgroup defaut setup. That's just an idea, nothing more. In any case, to not add latency, the period size of zita*2* must be smaller than the period of jack, with the exception when this last one is already very small.
