Yes, Ubuntu 12.10 (with kernel 3.5.0) on my ThinkPad X230 produced the same -71 error.

Kernel 3.10.0 is looking promising! Previously, I never had actually gotten audio output from the DAC2+Thinkpad+Ubuntu 12.10 combo (kernel 3.5.0), though after much fussing-about, the OS would seemingly correctly recognize the DAC as a UAC 2.0 device, and PulseAudio meter would show activity (though I'd have no analog audio output). But after upgrading to kernel 3.10.0? Not only do I have audio output, but I have so far not had any trouble at all with the OS correctly detecting the UAC 2.0 device. As a UAC 1.0 device, it's still broken, producing "usb_set_interface failed" messages as before, but I suppose there's no point in my using it in that mode anymore.

Configuration-wise, I simply reused the Ubuntu-supplied 3.5.0 config file.

Output of lspci -v on the X230 + Kernel 3.10.0:

I'm currently compiling 3.10.0 for my music PC, but this will take awhile, as it's an Intel Atom box. Even if it does seem to work, I will try to break it over the next couple of days.
