Hi, thanks for the response. I suspect that I may need a mic pre-amp, I read this from my soundcard manual:

The jack farthest from the volume knob is the line-level stereo input, which is set to a fixed nominal gain of –10 dbV.

Audio input cannot be muted. Type "arecord -l" to list available devices.
Assiming the Indigo is your card #0, you should record sound with a simple
command like this:

arecord -fcd -Dhw:0 something.wav
