Hi, from http://wiki.x.org/wiki/RadeonFeature you can see HDMI Audio is currently not supported for evergreen / N.Islands hardware. This includes everything > AMD Radeon 4xxx. For now you can use HDMI Audio only with the binary AMD/ATI Driver.
