The 'trick' to avoiding problems with the device numbering changing is to use "M2496" instead of "0" or "1", i.e. hw:M2496. > If I drop the 'plug' in front of hw the 'Playing WAVE...' line comes and > then also 'aplay: set_params:1053: Sample format not available Available > formats: -S32_LE ICE1712 cards only accept one sample format, and also only 10 channel output / 12 channel input (yes, no simple 2 channel stereo, really), so for most purposes you will have to use default:M2496 or plughw:M2496. > If I use Vlc and with my Fedora 13 play music through the S/PDIF outputs > of the card the aplay command returns 'aplay: main:654: audio open > error: Device or resource busy. spdif:M2496 should work on these, but probably not if anything else is accessing the rest of device at the same time. On an M2496, s/pdif is on channels 9/10 of the 10 channel output and 12 channel input (channels 11/12 on the input are monitors of the output), which is quite useful for JACK; less so for simple programs that assume stereo...
