I have the same card... like it.

My reel-2-reel tape deck has very HOT outputs.  I put a 12db passive
attenuator in line with the RCA cables... works very nicely.  You may
need more... before I got the M-audi 2496 card I was using a MOBO sound
card, which needed even more attenuation...
