External receiver integration.

I currently have lirc configured to control my external amplifier/receiver by sending IR signals to it to increase/decrease volume.

Would it be possible to have an alsa mixer that can control & track the external amp volume?

e.g.
Click on my kmix applet and slide a volume slider to control the LIRC volume events (external amp).
The external amp supports 31 volume-up clicks. When the computer starts it can turn on the amp - set the volume to 0 then 15. From the software as I move the volume slider up and down it will queue-up any number of up/down lirc volume events to send to the external amp.
e.g. 2 ... My keyboard has a volume dial on it which controls alsa master volume. Change the volume knob to control the external receiver volume via alsa/lirc and still have on-screen feedback as to the current volume state.

Is this possible?
