Apogee Mini-DAC Firewire and Benchmark DAC1

I've tried to search for information about the Linux compatibility of the current versions of the following devices:
- Apogee Mini-DAC Firewire
- Benchmark DAC1

Neither manufacturer is mentioned in the ALSA SoundCard Matrix.

The USB version of Mini-DAC was mentioned on the linux-audio-user mailing list in 2005:
http://www.linuxaudio.org/mailarchive/lau/2005/6/12/114977

The DAC1 was mentioned in 2007:
http://www.linuxaudio.org/mailarchive/lau/2007/1/15/132940

Both replies are encouraging, but there isn't enough convincing information about compatibility and possible issues for buying either one of the products.

I'd appreciate any links or extra information.

Cheers,
