You hit probably two bugs. I was able to reproduce the speaker-test problem - the S24_LE format is not supported in this tool (so you got silence). This tool didn't check the supported formats. I added appropriate checks to the ALSA GIT repository: http://git.alsa-project.org/?p=alsa-utils.git;a=commitdiff;h=075becdb1ace743149eae9a32bc48f22d027092f Unfortunately, I don't know the reason, why aplay does not play your wav file. I have one S24_LE file here and it is played on 96kHz/24-bit hardware without problems. Could I download your .wav file somewhere for tests? Or you may try to test another player.
