alsamixer hanging

Hi-

I have a very strange situation. After a kernel upgrade, I get a crash
if I run alsamixer in urxvt. If I run it in xterm or terminal, or by
ssh, then it works. If I *then* run it in urxvt it works, although it
pauses for a split second at the moment where it normally crashes. The
crash is a heavy one - the machine is not pingable, and doesn't respond
to magic sysrq.

I tried deleting /etc/asound.conf and /etc/asound.state, and I don't
have any ~/.asoundrc. I can run amixer without a problem.

I'm using Archlinux, kernel is 2.6.31 on AMD 64. My alsa-utils version
is 1.0.21.

johncc@liberator:~$ cat /proc/asound/modules
 0 snd_emu10k1
 1 snd_intel8x0

The cards are a Soundblaster Audigy 2 Value, and an onboard nVidia CK804
AC'97.

I managed to get some strace of the crash by remounting / as sync, but
I'm not sure how useful it is. To avoid spamming the list with it, here
it is: http://pastebin.com/m221acd0c

Can anyone suggest where the problem might be?

Thanks in advance.

John
