Modprobe Conf- Warning: module config file does not exist

Hi

I am a total novice so I'd better start with the apology - sorry for missing info or stupid questions.

I have had Debian (etch) running on an old Gateway Pentium for a couple of years. I've only learnt about linux when I've had to and generally it has all been great.

I now have a new Advent QC6003 with Intel Quad Q8200 CPU and IDT 92HD73E HD Audio Codec sound card. Sound works fine in windows. I have installed Debian Lenny and it looks great but I can't get sound to work. I can use alsamixer in a terminal and use GNOME Alsa Mixer and have checked that the mute switches are off.

I have searched online and on these lists but been unable to find anyone with the same problem or with a solution.

I think the problem is here:
     Modprobe Conf ---------------------------------------------
Warning: module config file does not exist
This means any kernel modules will not be auto loaded
See your linux distro docs on how to create this file

I have no etc/modprobe.conf file.

I followed wiki.debian.org in using module-assistant to install and update alsa but it still won't work.

What should I do next?

Huw
