To make a different device the default device for two different users, put the following settings in their ~/.asoundrc files: defaults.pcm.dmix.device 0 defaults.pcm.dmix.device 1 (This is user specific, not X session specific.) HTH Clemens I tried that, that particular suggestion didn't work, but I changed it to pcm.!default rear:Live and pcm.!default front:Live which did work partially. However, it broke sound in firefox. It also messed up some flash programs (links could not be clicked in the flash program). Very strange. I removed the .asoundrc files and the links work and the sound in firefox. I must have sound in firefox because this is my kids computers and they love their flash games. Also, I was hoping to get the devices X session dependant. I heard someone suggest chrooting each X session, copying the dev directory and linking /dev/dsp to /dev/dsp[x] (whatever number card you want for the given X session).
