8x8 MIDI Interface

I think this came up on the list about a year ago, but I wanted to
check in because I have been able to come up with a good answer my
self.

The basic question is:

What 8x8 MIDI interface should I use with ALSA (ideally USB)?

I already have a MOTU Express XT because the company I am working for
(on this project) already has them for use with Macs. But they don't
work with Linux. From the research I have done there is no fix to this
at all.

Oddly however when you plug the MOTU unit into the USB port on linux
it actually does connect and it appears as a 2x2 MIDI interface.
Sending or listening for messages don't work (no error, just nothing
comes out or is detected coming it).

Any advise? Are there any currently commercially available 8x8
interfaces that work with Linux?
