You might think that, but its fine. I take the exact same hdmi+dvi
adaptor, and the rca-to-stero cable, plug in to either my macbook pro,
or macbook with mini displayport adaptor to hdmi and I get audio and
video.

Put the plugs right back to the HTPC, get nothing. leave them there,
boot a i386 Ubuntu 9.x Jaunty liveCD and Audio out of the TV works.

TV and cables are fine, and the hardware is all fine as well. It's
obviously a kernel/driver issue. i'm still working on compiling a new
kernel but haven't had the time to do further troubleshooting.
