Sound card controls mapping issue on fedora 10

Hi,

I am using fedora 10 on acer 4530 laptop.

The laptop has a nvidia chipset, with nvidia sound card.

Sound on my laptop's front speakers worked out of the box after the
installation. However, if I plugin my earphone, i hear no sound but my
front speakers continue to play. After working on that I found that
controls are assigned incorrectly.. From the sound manager window if I
unmute and increase the volume for 'Surround sound' I hear sound on my
headphones. I manually have to cut the audio from the front speakers
by muting them to stop them.

Is there a way to fix the wrongly mapped controls?

I would like to have some pointers to know about ALSA, OSS, PULSEAUDIO..

I understand that ALSA is the base for the other two and they both
operate as alsa plugins, but which one should I be using often and
why.. Also, My sound manager seems to show a lot of devices which
confuses me.. e.g:

1. HDA NVidia (Alsa Mixer)
2. Realtek ALC888 (OSS Mixer)
3. Playback: HDA Nvidia - ALC888 Analog (Pulseaudio Mixer)
4. Capture: Monitor of HDA - ALC888 Analog (Pulseaudio Mixer)
5. Capture: HDA NVidia -ALC 888 Analog (pulseaudio Mixer)

My sound card uses snd-hda-intel driver and alsa uses ALC888 codec on my card0
