Are we really supposed to track down the sound card? lspci and look for the sound card details. What is the contents of /etc/modprobe.conf? What happens when you do alsamixer (PS If you have a choice, do not buy LG notebooks. They are a ripoff and the service is attrocious. My son's notebook went into the shop three times, and the third time it sat there for 2 months when they finally gave him a different ( and I believe much cheaper) model.)
