Just saying I notice a similar problem but, I think, only
with its digital output. I started using the Creative ctfxi
driver about 6 months ago and for about 3 months time I had
no such problems, then about 2 to 3 months ago it started
providing a crackling distorted sound.. probably after a
kernel upgrade.

I think we can only hope for a driver update from Creative.
