I have no sound on Dell Optiplex 960 using Analog Devices 1984a
integrated chip.

Running Ubuntu Linux 8.04 (HardyHeron)
(do not want to upgrade to newer version)

I followed the instructions at:
        http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6589810#post6589810

I've edited:
     /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base and
     /etc/modprobe.d/options
and aded the line:
     options snd-hda-intel model=desktop

I've replaced "desktop" with generic, laptop, mobile, thinkpad, basic
and dell.
None worked.

The connection in the front of the computer, if i attach
a headset works fine. (must not be the same as the rear connection
where my speakers are attached to.)
