I am running MEPIS 7.5 with Debian Lenny repositories on an IBM Thinkpad A21m (P3 750MHz, Sound Fusion CS46xx (more detail in aadebug output, below)). I have had no problems with audio output. Until recently, I have no need for audio input. I can hear the microphone audio (both with built-in speakers and headphones, also both built-in and external microphones). However, the audio does not get to any applications that accept audio input. I have tried with several applications, including Audacity (which I installed specifically to help debug this issue). I have checked all the mixer settings using alsamixer. I also tried altering the settings. Same result. I also tried using aumix. Notable observation: Muting or reducing the microphone in the mixer is heard in the output (that is, if I mute the microphone, then I no longer hear it on the speakers or in the headphones). Also, I have tried various suggestions from both the Audacity website and the ALSA website. Nothing has helped, yet. Here is the output from aadebug: ALSA Audio Debug v0.1.0 - Sun Mar 29 01:29:17 EDT 2009 http://alsa.opensrc.org/aadebug http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt Kernel ---------------------------------------------------- Linux datapad 2.6.22-1-mepis-smp #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Feb 18 21:44:02 EST 2008 i686 GNU/Linux Loaded Modules -------------------------------------------- snd_usb_audio 72672 0 snd_usb_lib 14336 1 snd_usb_audio snd_hwdep 7556 1 snd_usb_audio snd_cs46xx 75080 1 snd_ac97_codec 90788 1 snd_cs46xx snd_pcm_oss 34976 0 snd_mixer_oss 14592 2 snd_pcm_oss snd_pcm 62084 4 snd_usb_audio,snd_cs46xx,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss snd_seq_dummy 3844 0 snd_seq_oss 28800 0 snd_seq_midi 6944 0 snd_rawmidi 18208 3 snd_usb_lib,snd_cs46xx,snd_seq_midi snd_seq_midi_event 6656 2 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi snd_seq 42576 6 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_seq_midi_event snd_timer 17668 2 snd_pcm,snd_seq snd_seq_device 7308 5 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq snd 41316 14 snd_usb_audio,snd_usb_lib,snd_hwdep,snd_cs46xx,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq,snd_timer,snd_seq_device snd_page_alloc 8328 2 snd_cs46xx,snd_pcm Modprobe Conf --------------------------------------------- Warning: module config file does not exist This means any kernel modules will not be auto loaded See your linux distro docs on how to create this file Proc Asound ----------------------------------------------- Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.15.
