Apologies Tamas.

I try to help with snd-hda-intel problems, and saw a mention of snd-hda-intel 
in your post, and was instantly set on this  being an hda intel problem. 
Looking back on your post I see that your card is an AC97 one.

Why it hasn't been picked up automatically is a bit strange. I'd be interested 
to know if running the command below as root gets the sounds working for you.

modprobe snd-intel8x0
