accessibility tts issues with alsa

Dear list,

Using alsa with speechenabled screenreaders has some problems
on my machine (debian lenny).
I have figured out that the dmix plugin does not work fast enough to
interupt speech output if dmix is used.

In fact the problem is that the user gets multiple speakers at a time if he
navigates quickly through menus etc.

It takes about a half sec to stop speech.
Can I modify something in my asound.conf to reduce this time?

BTW. My cards are intel8x0 based ad1980
and usb audio based headset.

The mentioned problem doesn't exist with a sblive!!!!
Please help!
halim
