Hi Graeme.

At last we're getting somewhere. I have Pulseaudio disabled on my F9 install,
and use KDE. I have read that some folk complain of low volume when using
Pulseaudio. So let's get rid of Pulseaudio, by disabling it. You can always
put it back later if you want. There is only one package that you need to
remove to disable it, and that is, alsa-plugins-pulseaudio . Removing that
will also remove the kde-settings-pulseaudio package, as you, like me, are
using KDE.

Now reboot, and alsamixer should now open using just alsamixer, rather than
alsamixer -D hw:0, and it should be showing all controls for playback. F4
will show capture controls.

Assuming that disabling Pulseaudio hasn't made any difference (but it's as
well to have it out of the way, just in case it is compounding the sound
problems) we'll now try the latest daily snapshot of the alsa driver. Patches
are being applied daily, and it's a longshot, but maybe some patch or other
has resolved your problem.

The daily snapshots of the alsa driver are available at the link below.
ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/tiwai/snapshot/

Download, and install alsa-driver-20081123.tar.gz, using the
usual ./configure, make, and as root, make install. Reboot using the options
line.
options snd-hda-intel probe_mask=1

I think that the above line is just used to identify if there are conflicts
between multiple codecs.

Now try the lenovo model option again.
options snd-hda-intel model=lenovo-ms7195-dig

I don't expect any changes from what you showed on your last post, but at
least we will have tried the latest snapshot of the driver.

On the link below for your laptop, the audio jacks are shown. (2) is shown
asMicrophone/Line in/centre/. (3) is shown as Line out/front speakers, and
(4) is shown as S/P-DIF out/rear speakers (this connection is only useable if
your software support it). On the back of the machine there is a connection
for HDMI out (this also may have a sound component on the graphics card)

Do you see the same as I do on your machine?
http://www.medion.de/md96420/au/flash.html

We are gradually getting there, and I'm not a Alsa sound guru, but try to help
where I can.

All the best.

Nigel.
