How could I solve that problem? [Sorry, wrote this thinking I was replying to the mythtv users list. Hopefully of some use, so sending it anyway] I have a J7F2WE1G2E board, which has to be the same or pretty similar to yours. Pass through works fine for me. I'm using Minimyth and the only configuration I made was to choose alsa:spdif as the audio output and click the two pass-through buttons. I haven't knowingly set up anything specific to xine. Not sure about 5.1. Generally my TV says it's detecting 2/2 data when I play a DVD. Also playback of TV shows seems to correctly drive the prologic circuitry in my TV: the TV doesn't show detection of that, but I can hear the back channel giving a sort of cut down surround.
