Sound suddenly broken (audiophile, openSuse 10.3)

Hello, since a few days my sound system is broken after a reboot, i.e. there's nosound at all.
e.g. speaker-test says:
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1008:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slavePlayback open error: -2,No such file or directory

Unfortunately I can't find any info what happened. I'm not sure if I shouldsee anything in /var/log/messages or with dmesg. I checked both but neitherdoes contain any information about sound or alsa.
When I delete and reconfigure the card with yast2 or alsaconf it works fine,i.e. they configure ice1712, but after the next reboot I have the same problemagain.

So where should I start looking? I appreciate any help.BTW the onboard sound card is disabled in Bios.
Thanks
Klaus
