Where is the root of the source tree? That's something only you know. You are running a self-compiled 2.6.25.9 currently, right? Can't find the forum on which I saw you say so earlier again... You downloaded a kernel source tree and unpacked that somewhere? That "somewhere" is where the source tree is now at. Ie, if you compiled the kernel in your own home directory, it might be in ~/linux-2.6.25.9. That directory. The one with the 'MAINTAINERS' file. I do hope that was the way you upgraded to 2.6.25.9.
