The spec sheet will give you the maximum values.  That might be on the 
card providers website for public consumption, or you might be able to 
get it from the card provider by signing a non disclosure agreement, or 
the developer that wrote the driver for alsa might be able to answer 
your question about the maximum value.  A long shot would be to reverse 
engineer the window's driver looking for the value.
