We are indeed not. The user list is read by newbies as well though so 
just thought I'd try and be precise in the wording.

I agree. Every time I give .asoundrc advice I basically just hint at it 
and hope that the person doesn't ask for more detail because I each and 
every time have to try things out myself to be sure I get it right...

I do keep expecting that it will actually start making sense once I just 
actually study the syntax but it seems to be at that most annoying level 
where you can _just_ get away with being a lazy bum... :-)
