Did not work for me:
[root@ben alsa-oss-1.0.15]# export CFLAGS="-m32"
[root@ben alsa-oss-1.0.15]# export LDFLAGS="-melf_i386"
[root@ben alsa-oss-1.0.15]# ./configure

I can't figure out how to have both the 64-bit alsa and the 32-bit alsa 
installed at the same time.
