Note that I am not an expert (alsa developer), and these instructions
could be wrong.

You can look in /usr/lib and /lib to see if libasound.so.2.0.0 is installed.

To install a later alsa, go to
<ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/alsa/snapshot/>ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/alsa/snapshot/
to get development snapshots kindly provided by Takashi Iwai. You will
need to compile and install them as root, using ./configure, make, make
install. You will need headers for your kernel installed during the
compile. There could be other things you will need to install if they
are missing on your system and required for the compile. It should be
straightforward to install it, make install. Read the directions in the
downloaded snapshot.

Switching to alsa if your system hasn't been setup for it means editing
some of the init scripts and creating folders I think. The install
might do that for you. You'll have to investigate how your distro does
things.

By the way, adobe now maintains a flash repository. If you do a search
you should be able to download the latest and greatest version of flash
for GNU/Linux (in binary only, of course).
