Using "default" makes it going through artsd in your case and that is
doing the rate-conversion.

Using "hw" is more direct. So you could try it with "-f dat" as
parameter.

arecord -f dat -D hw:1 test.wav

Recording WAVE 'test.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz,
Stereo
arecord: set_params:906: Channels count non available

Doesn't work either... I think there must be a general issue with ALSA
somewhere, because the webcam mic does not work anywhere, it does not
work with Skype, it does not work with ALSA at all. I found with Google
now some other folks with the same issue, so there seems to be a
general problem somewhere with USB sound / microphones...

No, it is NOT a general problem with usb sound/microphones. In fact usb is
easier since there exists a standard as to how usb sound is supposed to
interface, AFAIK. Now manufacturers find all kinds of neat ways of getting
around these. One is to demand that one has to download firmware to the
card each and every time it is installed. I have no idea if this is the
problem in your case.

Hi,

What is your alsa configuration file? Can you post it here. It is typically
something like /etc/modules.d/asla
