Preferred way to disable dmix

Hello,

I have two sound cards in my system.

The first one is the onboard sound card, I use it for all the system sounds.

The second one is a ice1712-card, which is for high quality recording and
output to my hi-fi system.

For the first card, dmix is a good thing. But I do not want to have dmix
running for my second card.
There is no /etc/asound.conf and no /etc/asound.rc file on my system, so I
wonder how I can disable dmix. What is the preferred way to do so?

Thanks,

~michael
