Hello, Since last autumn, I have struggled with installing the ATI's video driver on my system; 1. CPU : Dual Core Opteron 270 x 2 2. Memory : 4GB 3. openSuSE 10.3 3-1. 2.6.22-5-31-default (smp) and, 3-2. 2.6.22-17-0.1-default (smp) 4. Video Card : ATI Radeon X1600 PCIE 5. Sound Card : RME Hammarfall HDSP 9632 [ALSA] alsa-devel-1.0.16.hg20080212-1.1 alsa-utils-1.0.16.hg20080212-1.1 alsa-plugins-1.0.16.hg20080122-5.1 alsa-1.0.16.hg20080212-1.1 alsa-firmware-1.0.16.hg20080206-1.1 alsa-oss-1.0.15.hg20071007-1.22 alsa-tools-gui-1.0.16.hg20080122-7.2 I could only use the ATI's video driver, ati-driver-installer-8.41.7-x86.x86_64.run. With other drivers; ati-driver-installer-8.42.3-x86.x86_64.run, ati-driver-installer-8.443.1-x86.x86_64.run, ati-driver-installer-7-11-x86.x86_64.run, ati-driver-installer-8-01-x86.x86_64.run, my system displayed only the bootsplash screen, never chahged to kdm (but not got hang up). This problem worried me for a long time. The day before yesterday, ATI released the new driver; ati-driver-installer-8-02-x86.x86_64.run. After installing this, my system could reach kdm! I thought, the problem has gone, but not. I've got another problem on the sound reproducing. I often listen the net radio; http://ottava.jp/index1.html. When listening, sound often stoppts with just like bufferring. So, I upgraded kernel to 2.6.24.1-57-default. Actually, this improves sound reproducing, but not solved my problem entirely. So, I think, alsa driver has got conflicts with ATI's video driver. Any advice?
