Hmm, I really couldn't get it working. Turns out that the what I activate the IEC 958 output, the headphones are automatically disabled - when its deactivated, they're enabled. So there's really nothing I could do (even if I got routing through the multi plugin working, which I didn't - ALSA kept telling me "Device or resource busy"). *sigh* Windows does it, using some trick I guess.
