that's really strange... :-/

mmh... not really. :-(

The only other things that I may suggest is to try playing 
trough different devices, i.e. try hw and plughw, as well 
as to try using "iecset" to see what's your card settings.

Perhaps you don't get the "audio" mode set on spdif?
