I had to realize that the |microphone is not working |using 2.6.21.6 + HG-Alsa (still middle of October), although the mic is |fine with SUSE-10.3 (2.6.22.12-0.1). | |However, I upgraded to (1) kernel 2.6.23.1 and (2) |NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-100.14.19-pkg2.run (older binaries don't compile |anymore). |Now, both sound and microphone work. Applying patches or code from HG is |not required anymore. | |I can use either the internal loudspeakers/microphone or |an headset connected to speaker-out jack and mic-In jack. | |Other remarks: Making skype calls together with video works. This is strictly speaking an FC8 issue, not alsa, but there's an interaction with alsa, so I perhaps I can be forgiven for another post. If I set the options in gnome-sound-properties to "autodetect", the test sounds become audible. With gmplayer or amarok, if I set the audio driver to 'oss', then I get sound, otherwise not. There are already a number of posts from FC8 users about this, eg: http://lists.linuxcoding.com/rhl/2007q4/msg07005.html and the preceding posts in the thread.
