With all appreciation for advice thus far, I do not have the background to be able to pick through the half mile of code here to tell what version sound card I have, or what version drivers to install, or how. If I were younger, and had more time on my hands, I imagine I could learn what I need for tweaking and rebuilding this system. As it is, I am no longer that young, but rather have a grad school schedule with papers due, etc, and desperately need this sound to run so I can hear the lectures I have recorded for filling in gaps in my class notes.
