Hi. There are 2 things I notice from the pastebin link. First, looking at
lsmod, you don't have the snd-pcm-oss module loaded, which is responsible for
creating /dev/dsp. You could try loading it manually as root.
modprobe snd-pcm-oss
Then see if /dev/dsp has been created, and you get the sound up and running.

Open alsamixer on the CLI, and try pushing up various sliders, unmuting any
muted controls. The "M" key toggles the state. There are only 5 controls
showing, and I thought there should be more, but more may turn up if you
manage to get the snd-pcm-oss module loaded.

The second thing I noticed is that you have the 1.0.15 version of alsa-lib,
and alsa-utils, but the alsa driver is at 1.0.14. I'd suggest that you
upgrade the alsa driver to 1.0.15, obtainable from.
http://alsa-project.org

There have been many patches applied since the 1.0.14, and may well resolve
your problem, and also may resolve the problem of snd-pcm-oss not being
loaded.

See how it goes. I'm not clued on hda-intel problems, but if you are still
stuck, post back, and someone else may pick the thread up.

Nigel.
