I have a Gigabyte G33 motherboard with a HDMI output. I'm trying to get audio to be delivered via HDMI (as my TV has no seperate audio input for HDMI devices and it won't do 1080p on the DVI input). /proc/asound/card0 has two codec files in it (codec#0 and codec#2). codec#2 is the working sound driver. It's got the normal analog outputs via a Realtek ALC885 et al and it's pretty boring. codec#0 is much shorter and (to me) more interesting: # cat codec#0 Codec: Generic 1095 ID 1392 Address: 0 Vendor Id: 0x10951392 Subsystem Id: 0xffffffff Revision Id: 0x100000 Default PCM: rates [0x0]: bits [0x0]: formats [0x0]: Default Amp-In caps: N/A Default Amp-Out caps: N/A Node 0x02 [Audio Output] wcaps 0x6211: Stereo Digital PCM: rates [0x7f0]: 32000 44100 48000 88200 96000 176400 192000 bits [0x1e]: 16 20 24 32 formats [0x5]: PCM AC3 Node 0x03 [Pin Complex] wcaps 0x40738d: Stereo Digital Amp-Out Amp-Out caps: ofs=0x00, nsteps=0x00, stepsize=0x00, mute=1 Amp-Out vals: [0x80 0x80] Pincap 0x0894: OUT Detect Pin Default 0x18560010: [Jack] Digital Out at Int HDMI Conn = Digital, Color = Unknown Pin-ctls: 0x00: Connection: 1 0x02 The 'ID 1392' is probably because the HDMI transmitter is a SiI 1392 chip? That chip takes either SPDIF or HDA as an input, so I presume that the intel G33 chipset is supplying that in some fashion? Note that the SPDIF from the ALC885 isn't connected to the SiI-1392 (at least, I presume not as there's a seperate SPDIF output on the board, and playing sound out the SPDIF line gives nothing on the HDMI output). # cat /proc/asound/devices 2: : timer 3: : sequencer 4: [ 0- 2]: digital audio capture 5: [ 0- 1]: digital audio playback 6: [ 0- 1]: digital audio capture 7: [ 0- 0]: digital audio playback 8: [ 0- 0]: digital audio capture 9: [ 0] : control Noting that codec#0 has no input (capture) I'm assuming that codec#0 isn't providing a device that shows up in asound/devices? So the question is: What is this magic codec#0 device, and how do I get it working?? Many thanks for any advice, Michael. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc.
