If memory serves, this is the original kernel from the Fedora Core 1 or Fedora Core 2 release (and you also mention, I think, that you're running Fedora Core). Get some more recent distro (if you're running Fedora, get Fedora 7) and run "yum update" to bring it up to speed. You'll be in a much better starting position then.
