try using "rear" as PCM name in the apps you use. To test:

aplay -Drear some_wav_file.wav

If the apps you use don't offer entering an arbitrary PCM device name they are 
broken. Please file a bug report with the authors ;) But you can then still 
override !default in the .asoundrc..
