ALSA and E-MU APS

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hi,

My first post to the list... be gentle..

I've installed Linux on an old PC which contains my beloved old E-Mu APS
soundcard - an Emu 10k1 based card. This was developed by E-Mu before
Creative bought them, so it's a very very early implementation of the 10k1.
The only reference I can find to this card in any ALSA documentation is that
it is 'partially supported', but this was on a site last updated over 5 years
ago...

The card is recognised by ALSA and the driver can be loaded. I can move mixer
sliders up and down, but I can't get any sound out of it at all. I know the
card works because I can dual-boot into Windows98 and fire up Cubase.

I'm using Mandriva 2007, which has ALSA 1.0.13.

My suspicion is that, because this was a very early card for the 10k1 chipset,
the PCM routing is probably very different to what the 10k1 driver is
expecting - poking around the ALSA configuration files I can find references
to inputs and outputs that my card doesn't have, but there are so many of
them it quickly becomes confusing to an uninitiated ALSA novice such as
myself. It looks to me as though PCM is being sent to an output that doesn't
exist on my card, but I'm really not sure. I have the feeling it could be
fixed by tweaking some config files but, as I said, I'm confused enough as it
is... I've already managed to break the configuration completely several
times.

Does anybody have any info on how I could get this card to work? Or is
prepared to help out with questions such as which files I should look into? I
don't mind spending a lot of time trying things out but I've reached the
stage where I need guidance. All my findings will, of course, be made public
if I get anything to work.

Mark.
