Till the previous release of alsa-lib+driver (1.0.14rc4), it was possible to play sound in external as well as internal speaker simultaneously. This was reproted as a bug by many ppl.

However, I find this feature desirable as it allows to route incoming call ringing to internal speaker even if the headset is left plugged in.

By the way, my I have a conexant intel ich7 soundcard

Thanks.

Many systems have a hardware switch in the headphone jack which disconnects
the speaker when the headphones are plugged in.
