Those changes won't take effect unless you do. Temporarily remove the ~/.asoundrc in your home directory, remove /etc/asound.conf, leave the changes in /ect/asound.state and log out and log back in. Finally try removing the card completely physically from the machine and remove any configuration you have for that card (back up to renamed file). Then reboot. Stop the system, physically install the sound card again, and reboot. The system should find the card and install default behavior. See if your mic works after adjusting the settings in alsamixer or asound.state, or using alsaconf in your case. All of the above are assuming that the driver allows recording, but that you have somehow configured it away. The fact that it used to work just fine makes me think that is the case. Might be wrong, but it is better than trying nothing. If you do get everything working the way you want, then use command "/sbin/alsactl store" so that it will persist across reboots.
