I have a laptop using the snd_hda_intel driver under 2.6.16. When I first install the module, aplay works with the hardware device: aplay -Dhw:0,0 sound.wav plays, as many times as I try to play it. But if I ever go through dmix: aplay -Dplug:dmix sound.wav then I get no sound, and will never get sound again, even if I try to go back to using the hardware device directly. The only way I can reset it is to unload and reload the module. Running aplay -Dplug:hw sound.wav plays the sound fine and does not mess up further attempts to play. lspci | grep Audio: 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02) lspci -v for that device says: 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02) Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.: Unknown device 1447 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 209 Memory at febfc000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K] Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2 Capabilities: [60] Message Signalled Interrupts: 64bit+ Queue=0/0 Enable+ Capabilities: [70] Express Unknown type IRQ 0 Capabilities: [100] Virtual Channel Capabilities: [130] Unknown (5) /var/log/messages says, when loading the module: ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:1b.0[A] -> GSI 21 (level, low) -> IRQ 193 This is alsa-driver 1.0.13, kernel 2.6.16-20.1smp from CentOS 4.3. alsa-lib version 1.0.13. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc.
